Graduation Preparation

We encourage all students who are pursuing a college degree or certificate to meet with an advisor to make an educational plan. An educational plan is a roadmap towards a college degree or certificate and an outline of coursework required to complete an educational objective or program of study.

The who, what, when, where and why...

Who: All students who are pursuing a college certificate or degree program at NSCC should meet with an advisor to make an educational plan.

What: Working with an advisor, students develop an educational plan using college transfer planning sheets or professional-technical scope and sequences, and considering factors such as personal timelines, course sequencing, previous coursework taken at other colleges, four-year admission deadlines, and requirements, and more.

Why: It is important to have an educational plan so you complete the correct coursework in a timely manner. Students with an educational plan have a clear understanding of the coursework necessary to achieve their educational objective or program of study and are able to use available resources to independently adapt and revise their educational plan when appropriate.

When and Where: For many transfer majors it is important to plan early in order to complete your baccalaureate degree in four years and assure a successful transfer to a four-year college or university. Planning also helps you to develop your educational objectives and focus on a major.
