- A transfer credit evaluation is necessary if:
-
You plan to earn a degree or certificate at North and you have taken classes
at another college or university which may apply to your current program.
If that college or university is located outside the United States, see the
instructions for international evaluations below.
- A transfer credit evaluation is NOT necessary if:
- you want to use classes from another institution as a prerequisite
for a class at North.
If you want to have classes from another college count for prerequisites for a North class, bring an unofficial copy of your transcript to the Advising Center for an entry code to register online.
How to Submit Courses from Other Colleges for Evaluation
- Order Official Transcripts from each college or university attended. (Exception: If you have taken classes at Seattle Central or South Seattle Community College, we will be able to access those records. Transcripts from these two colleges are not necessary.)
Official Transcripts should be sent to:
- Records Office
North Seattle Community College
9600 College Way North
Seattle, WA 98103-3599
- See an Advisor in the Advising Center. An unofficial evaluation of incoming credits can be done with an Advisor. Bring student copies of your transcripts to the advising session. The Advisor will assist in selecting the proper courses to take at North. A graduation plan will be developed and an academic worksheet on the program you are seeking will be provided.
- Fill out the Application for Evaluation of Incoming
Credits.
The green 'Application for Evaluation of Incoming Credits' form can be found in the Advising Center or at the front counter of Admissions/Registration. Please
read the form carefully and fill it out completely.
- Take the signed Application for Evaluation of Incoming Credits to the front counter of Admissions/Registration. Staff will verify that official transcripts are on file. If transcripts are on file, the Application for Evaluation of Incoming Credits will be processed. If official transcripts have not arrived, the student will be asked to come back to the Admissions/Registration counter when the Official Transcripts have arrived.
Please Note: Some students choose to bring official transcripts to the Admissions/Registration Office themselves. If you choose to hand deliver your transcripts, official transcripts must arrive sealed in the original envelope from the issuing institution.
Results of your official evaluation will be mailed to you in approximately
4 to 6 weeks. Processing times will vary at different times of the year depending
upon graduation processing.
A copy of the official evaluation (Report of Academic Progress/ Degree Audit) will be sent to you. The Report of Academic Progress (Degree Audit) is an internal advising tool you should use with your Faculty coordinator or advisor. Students can do a Degree Audit online -- Go to Online Services and choose "Do Your Own Degree Audit".
Please note that while the Degree Audit is a useful tool for students who want to track their credits, it is not the same thing as a transcript. Courses that transfer to North will ONLY appear within the Degree Audit and not on your NSCC transcript. Transfer courses will be calculated in the Graduation GPA Only (GPA on the Degree Audit) but will not be calculated in the GPA on North's transcript.
| Course Abbreviations used on Degree Audit: |
| |
C/T |
College Transfer (credit for elective courses that do not fit any North disciplines). |
|
VOC |
Vocational credit ONLY. |
|
TR |
Courses that appear in the audit that come from another college or university. |
|
CO |
Courses from other colleges or universities that are combined into one for the audit. |
|
SP |
Courses from other colleges or universities where credits have been split to accommodate the audit. |
International Education Credentials Evaluations
Students who wish to transfer credits from colleges and universities located
outside the United States will need to have their transcripts evaluated by an
independent foreign credentials evaluation agency. Be sure to select course
by course evaluations.
NSCC recommends
AACRAO's
International
Education Services. To request an evaluation, fill out the form (download
below) and return it to the address specified on the form.
Steps for Requesting an Evaluation of International Credits
-
In Person
Bring the officially sealed evaluation (from
AACRAO)
and the official international transcript (translated into English) to the
front counter of Admissions, Registration, Records and Credentials
(ARRC)
on the second floor of the College Center Building. Do not open
officially sealed documents.
By Mail
Officially sealed evaluations may be mailed to the
ARRC
Office at NSCC.
If transcripts have been mailed to
NSCC, check at
the Front Counter of
ARRC
to be sure they have arrived before requesting an Application for Evaluation
of Incoming Credits (green form for transfer degrees, blue form for professional
technical degrees).
-
An official copy of the international transcript, (translated into English),
must accompany the official agency evaluation and Application for Evaluation
of Incoming Credits form. Photocopies will be made of the international
transcripts and filed in the
ARRC
office. The official copy of the international transcripts will be given
back to the student.
-
Please fill out the Application for Evaluation of Incoming Credits form and
submit it to an ARRC
front counter staff person.
-
North Seattle Community College's Credentials Office will review the official
international evaluation and international transcript to identify credits
which can be transferred into NSCC
for a degree/certificate.
-
An official evaluation (Report of Student Progress or Degree Audit) will be
mailed to the student, usually within 5-6 weeks after submission of the request;
however, during the process of graduation at the end of each quarter official
evaluations will take longer.
Please note: The transfer of international credits is intended for
NSCC degrees or
certificates only. International students should not assume that foreign credits
used in NSCC degrees
or certificates will be recognized at any other domestic university or college.
Not all U.S. universities or colleges use
International Evaluation/Translation companies. It is recommended that international
students contact the universities and colleges they plan to attend to see what
procedures should be followed when transferring credits from international transcripts.
