FAQs

How Do I Request a Credit Evaluation?

Credit evaluation is provided only to students who have applied and been admitted to NSCC. See the credit transfer procedure for Transfer Degrees or Professional/Technical programs as applicable.

The Application for Evaluation of Incoming Credits is intended only for credit evaluation of Regionally Accredited Colleges and Universities, AP and IB scores, Recognized International Colleges or Universities & Military Training. To have Credit by Exam, Work Experience, Nationally Accredited Colleges and Universities, Prior Experiential Learning (PELP), or State, Industry or Professional Association Approved Training evaluated contact the Faculty Coordinator for your program of study. If a faculty coordinator awards you credit then those credits will need to be processed by a Credentials Evaluator. Credit by Exam, Work Experience, Nationally Accredited Colleges and Universities, Prior Experiential Learning (PELP), or State, Industry or Professional Association Approved Training cannot be processed by an evaluator until the student has successfully completed at least one quarter at NSCC. Credit by Exam requires prior completion of 9 residence credits with a grade of C or better.

How Do I Know What Credits Transfer?

A copy of your credit evaluation will be sent to you by mail within 6-8 weeks from the date your request is submitted; however, during high volume periods official evaluations may take longer. Please act early. If credit is awarded, it is listed on the degree audit for your program of study. Degree audits can be obtained by your advisor or faculty coordinator.

Will Transferred Credits Appear on My NSCC Transcript?

Transfer courses are not listed on your NSCC transcript. Transfer credits and grades are included in the NSCC graduation GPA. Credits with less than a D (0.7) grade are not counted toward graduation requirements.

When should I have a credit evaluation done?

If you have previous college coursework or other educational background AND you wish to earn a certificate or degree from NSCC, you and your Advisor or Faculty Coordinator should establish as early as possible how your previous education may be counted toward meeting requirements. As soon as you apply for admission to NSCC you may request an evaluation. Visit ARRC on the second floor of the College Center Building (206-527-3663) and request an ?Application for Evaluation of Incoming Credits.? This application is also available at the Advising Center, located on the second floor of the College Center Building, or through your Faculty Coordinator. Follow the instructions on that application in order to submit the proper documentation.

If NSCC accepts transfer credit will other colleges accept it also?

Every college and university has its own policies for evaluating credit earned prior to enrollment with them. If you attend another college after NSCC, that college will request your NSCC transcript AND all other previous transcripts and records and evaluate each one separately and according to its own policy. For example, though NSCC may award you 5 credits for a French IB exam, another college may decide not to do so. Check ahead with your intended transfer school to determine their transfer credit policies.
