Test Procedure
  1. Complete an ESL application:

    For Beginners

If you are a beginner and cannot read, write, understand, and speak enough English to take a group ESL Placement Test—please go to the Advising Center. The ESL advisor will place you in a Level 1 class for the next quarter. Please bring an official picture identification, such as a Driver's License or Washington State ID.

It is okay to have someone with you when you come in.

If you are above ESL Level 1:

If you can understand, speak, read, and write some English, please go to Admissions/Registration to complete an ESL application. Bring official Picture ID with you such as a Washington State ID or Driver's License. You must come in person to complete the ESL application at Admissions/Registration and make an appointment at the Testing Center.

It is okay to have someone with you when you come in.

  2. After completing an ESL application, go directly to the Testing Center with your application to make an appointment for the ESL test. Testing Center staff will ask you several interview questions before making the appointment. The questions are to make sure you can understand the test examiner and can do all parts of the test (some listening, reading, and writing in English). It is best to make your appointment several days before the test you want to take. If you come to Testing to make an appointment less than one hour before the ESL test you will not be able to take the test that day. Our staff will make you an appointment for a future ESL test.

Again, it is OK to have someone with you when you come in to apply. However, interview questions may not be translated by, nor answered by your associate.
