Weighted Scores
The GED test is a way for someone who has not completed high school to show that she or he has the equivalent knowledge of someone who has completed high school. Most colleges and universities will accept the GED in place of high school transcripts.
Test Hours
GED Testing is done on Thursdays. See downloadable Testing Calendar for specific tests, times and dates. Appointments can be made after the GED Test Registration Packet is completed and test fees paid. The GED Test Registration Packet must be submitted in person at the Testing Center. See Test Procedure for details.

Appointment Policy
You must schedule an appointment to take the GED test. However, before you can make an appointment, you must complete a GED Test Registration Packet, and pay for at least one subject test. See Test Procedure for details.

Cost
The fee for the entire GED test is $75.00 (or $15.00 per subject test), and must be paid before testing begins and before appointments are made. Appointments must be arranged at least one day before the scheduled GED test. You may pay for all 5 tests when you sign up or for each subject test as you make the appointment. We suggest dropping off your application and fee as soon as possible, since some sessions fill. If you took GED subject tests at another GED testing center in Washington state or have an official transcript for out-of-state scores, the fee is $15.00 for each remaining subject test. Be sure to tell us that you have already tested at another location. We will give you a fee slip to take to the college cashier's office. The cashier accepts cash, checks (made out to NSCC), and credit/debit cards.

Note: Career Link Academy students should bring an approval form from the Career Link office in lieu of payment.

Additional charges may apply for those who need to retake the exams.

Test Procedure
  1. You will need to pick up and complete a GED Test Registration Packet. You can drop by the office to pick one up, or have us mail one to you (contact the Testing Center by phone during regular business hours to have a packet mailed to you). Included in the packet are a short instruction page, the GED demographic form, and a yellow registration card. There is also a page of frequently asked questions about the GED test and college policy that you may keep for reference.
  2. Return the packet in person to the Testing Center in order to schedule your test date. Please complete the forms as instructed in the packet, and bring them with you into the Testing Center.

When you return the packet, you must also bring:

    • Two pieces of ID: one government issued photo ID such as a WA driver's license or ID card and a second piece of ID that has your name and signature on it.
    • $75.00 test fee (or $15.00 per test).
    • Students who are age 16, 17, or 18 MUST bring the GED underage permission form (Request for Approval to Test, GED Diploma) signed by a Seattle Public School administrator. This form is available at the John Stanford Center at 2445 Third Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98134  Phone.  (206) 252-0000. A Seattle Public School district administrator at this office can sign the form and indicate approval/disapproval of the application. There is a different form required for students who are homeschooled (see 'Who can take the GED?', under FAQs).

You must return the packet at least one day before the test you want to schedule for.

We will check that all of the forms have been completed, check your ID and then give you a fee slip to take to the Cashier's office.

  3. Go to the Cashier's office and pay the appropriate fees. Return to Testing with the payment receipt.
  4. Once the packet has been accepted and the payment receipt turned in, testing staff will schedule your first GED testing appointment.
