Entrance Procedures

  1. Orientations are held quarterly to provide basic information on the EMT class, class content and student expectations. The orientation is open to everyone. People needing information regarding this program should plan to attend this session. Winter EMT orientation will be November 12, 2008, at 7pm in the library, room LB1131.

  2. A written First Aid Entrance Exam is administered approximately one month before the start of the class. A passing score of 70% is the minimum allowable for class entrance. Class participation is determined by the first aid test score. The date of this next pretest will be November 19, 2008, 6:30pm - 8:30pm, in the library in room LB1131. You will need to bring your photo ID to be allowed to take the pretest.

  3. You will be sent a letter within two weeks after the pretest, indicating if you have been approved to the program and giving you registration information at that time. Test results and approval information will not be given over the telephone.

Enrollment Prerequisites

  1. Applicants must show proof of being at least 18 years of age at the beginning of the course enrollment.

  2. Photocopy of high school diploma or GED equivalency at the beginning of the course enrollment.

  3. Photocopy of a valid Washington State driver's license. This is a state requirement.

  4. Must pass entrance exam with a score of 70% or better. The top 40 scores are chosen to enter the class and a waiting list of 10 will also be notified in case people in the top 40 do not wish to enroll.

    The material to study is the American Red Cross Emergency Response course or the Washington State First Responder course. Contact the American Red Cross  Phone.  206-323-2345 or the NSCC Bookstore for availability of book.

  5. A current photocopy of your CPR card. American Heart Association's Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross CPR/Professional Rescuer are the only acceptable CPR courses. This is needed on first night of class.

    AHE191 - Professional Rescuer CPR - is held quarterly at North. The dates of the next CPR classes are Thursday, December 18, 2008, 6pm - 10pm, and Saturday, December 20, 8:30am - 4:30pm in the Instructional Building - room IB1410. This class is highly recommended for the students going into the EMT program as it meets all the necessary requirements for the program. Please come to the Health/Medical division to register. Tuition and fees are $131.13* ($22.60 state tuition @ 11.30 per credit + $108.53 self support lab fees). You will also need to purchase a pocket mask, as well as the textbook called "The National Safety Council's Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers and Professional Rescuers." The CPR textbook is mandatory and must be purchased from the college bookstore by the first day of class. Proof of purchase form the college book store must be brough to the CPR class on the first night as well to receive certification.

  6. Have the physical strength to carry, lift, extricate patients and perform similar patient handlings in a manner not detrimental to the patient, fellow emergency technicians or self.
