Responsibilities
WA State Certif.
Department of Social and Health Services specifies the levels of knowledge and skills required to qualify as an Emergency Medical Technician. In addition, a number of policies have been adopted by the faculty and administration at North Seattle Community College to maintain accreditation with the Office of Emergency Medical Services for King County, and State Office of Emergency Medical Services in Olympia, and to fulfill the needs of the program graduates and employers.

An optional orientation meeting is scheduled prior to the entrance examination (the pretest). Please contact the Health-Medical division

Course Outcomes/ Learning Objectives

At the student's successful completion of this course, he or she will be eligible to be state certified as an EMT (when he/she meet the state requirement of affiliation). All students passing the course will receive a certificate of completion from NSCC.

  1. Overall roles and responsibilities of the EMT in performing both emergency medical care and operational aspects of the job.
  2. Develop skills in patient evaluation and all emergency treatment procedures as required by Washington State Laws.
  3. Meet the minimum standards of state law and local county guidelines.
  4. Develop student skill in the use and maintenance of all equipment and instruments required to accomplish the job as an EMT.
  5. Demonstrate a knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology and of sudden illness or injury; and of the mechanics of injury for patient evaluation for the sick and injured.
