Nursing Assistant Certificate

Photo: man in wheelchair pushed by nurse The Nursing Assistant Certificate program provides instruction in basic nursing care skills, including: CPR, HIV/AIDS, and clinical training in a long term care facility. After successful completion of the Nursing Assistant Program, students are eligible to sit for the State of Washington Nursing Assistant examination for State certification. Students receiving their certification will be eligible to apply for employment in a long term care nursing facility, hospital, or community health agency.

Course objectives are based on the laws of Washington State that govern the certification and practice of Certified Nursing Assistants in Washington State. More information about state requirements is available from the Department of Health website and the DSHS website. This program also has an I-BEST option.

Throughout this program of study the importance of a responsible and professional work ethic is stressed. Factors leading to such a work ethic are identified and discussed. Instruction is also provided in effective leadership and how it enhances the work environment. Input from this program's industrial advisory committee is essential to curriculum content pertaining to the work ethic and leadership as well as the technically oriented curriculum.

Safety and industrial hygiene are included throughout the curriculum through lectures and actual demonstrations of safe laboratory techniques.
