Photo: nurse removing gloves North Seattle Community College, in cooperation with Bellingham Technical College, is proud to offer the new Radiologic Technology AAS Degree. This program prepares you for a career in the high demand field of Radiology Technologist.

Radiologic Technology is a full-time, 7-quarter program that only begins once a year in the fall quarter. Students must complete certain prerequisite classes before they can apply to the program, and must meet both physical and instructional requirements to be accepted. The prerequisite classes can be started any quarter.

NSCC hosts students, but admissions, tuition, registration and the degree itself are done through Bellingham Technical College.

The Radiologic Technology program fulfills the educational objectives established by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) and competencies outlined by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Program graduates are eligible to apply to take the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; successful completion of the registry examination results in national certification as a Registered Radiologic Technologist, RT (R) ARRT.

Tasks

Specific tasks typically required of a radiologic technologist include:

  • Using computer terminals and setting the proper exposure techniques on the X-ray equipment
  • Using and maintaining of X ray, magnetic and computer driven equipment
  • Assisting radiologists and other physicians in the delivery of health care services in medical imaging and other related departments
  • Providing patient care in routine and special procedures including consideration for the physical and psychological needs of the patient and family
  • Presenting case studies incorporating patient history and pathology
  • Performing care tasks such as:
    • infection control techniques
    • vital signs
    • safety and transfer positioning
    • medical emergencies
    • barium studies
    • oxygen therapy and catheters
  • Performing basic positioning techniques
  • imaging and processing production

Employment Outlook

Employment opportunities for Radiologic Technologists will increase (23%) faster than the average through 2012.
