Program Details

The Program

Graphic: atomic diagram of x-ray emission Radiologic Technology is a 7-quarter program (including summer quarter). The program begins once a year during fall quarter. It is a full time program and cannot be taken part-time.

Within some parameters, admission is on a first come, first served basis and students are admitted only after they have completed their prerequisite classes and have met certain physical requirements. Some specific instructional requirements will also apply.

The Radiologic Technology program fulfills the educational objectives established by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) and competencies outlined by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Program graduates are eligible to apply to take the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; successful completion of the registry examination results in national certification as a Registered Radiologic Technologist, RT (R) ARRT.

Physical Requirements

Work in the field of Radiologic Technology has certain physical on-the-job requirements. The requirements are outlined in the application package and BTC program website. Potential students should review these requirements prior to taking their prerequisites to examine their ability to meet demands of this position.

Radiologic Technologists must remain mentally and physically alert to react to emergency situations, safety hazard warnings, and equipment problems. The technologist must have the ability to feel, see, hear, and smell. The technologist is required to communicate with patients and maneuver patients and heavy equipment. Thus, the technologist must have adequate use of limbs and speech. Every reasonable attempt will be made to accommodate disabilities.

Instructional Requirements

Although North Seattle Community College hosts students, the program is through Bellingham Technical College. Admissions, tuition, registration and degrees are all through BTC.

The Radiologic Technology program begins fall quarter and is a total of seven (7) quarters. First year students attend fall, winter, spring, and summer. Second year students attend fall, winter, and spring. Courses will be scheduled at a variety of times during the day, late afternoon, and evening. Some courses will be provided online and some using video conference media at Everett, North Seattle, and Bellingham. NSCC students may be required to attend at Bellingham once a month. Clinical shifts may be from 8 to 12 hours dependent on the quarter and may vary from days, evenings, or weekends at a variety of clinics and hospitals. Students must be able to accommodate the various clinical schedules. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required to progress in the program, but no course can be completed with less than a 2.0 GPA.

Some courses will be web-based. You must have a computer, or have regular access to a computer, that meets the minimum computer requirements outlined in the application information or on the BTC program website.

Students may apply for a degree upon completion and verification of all requirements and standards.
