North Seattle Community College's Art Department offers a wide array of courses in ceramics, drawing, computer art and design, metal design, printmaking, painting, jewelry-making and sculpture. These courses — all of which are transferable — can lead you toward a specialized associate of fine arts degree or can fulfill general education requirements for an Associate of Arts degree, both of which are transferable to four-year colleges and universities.
North is one of a handful of colleges in the country to offer an Associate or Fine Arts (AFA) and Certificates of Fine Arts (CFA) and one of only a few jewelry-making programs in the state.
Students may also take these courses for general knowledge or pleasure, and many do. North's art students range in age from 16 to 85 and their art interests are equally as varied. Some students, who already have a BA, for example, pursue the AFA degree to complement their training in another discipline.
Courses can be taken for credit or on an "audit" basis where no credit is given or evaluation required. We also welcome senior citizens in the special "Readers Program" (with no credit given) on a space available basis for as little as $10. Seniors wishing to be certain of getting into a course are advised to pay the normal tuition and sign up for credit or audit.
