The Theater Department at NSCC
offers students the opportunity to learn the various disciplines of theater
in the context of producing works for the stage. We offer a full range of
theater courses which are based around production work. Whether studying
acting or design, playwriting or stage management, our students have the
opportunity to take their work from conception to performance. Students also
have the option to pursue work in film, television, and online media through
department and campus resources as well as through collaboration between the
Theater Department and the on-campus studios of
SCCtv.
Study in theater at North takes place in small classes with a great deal of individual attention. Students can earn their AA degree, which is transferable to 4-year institutions for further study in theater, drama, liberal arts studies, or other programs. It is also possible to go on to conservatory training. Finally, we offer a Certificate in Acting for those interested in concentrated study in theater who are not seeking a degree.
The Theater Department is inclusive and we firmly believe that our program is enriched by the participation of students from other disciplines. The study of theater is not only for those hoping to pursue a life on stage. Students of theater learn skills that are transferable to other pursuits. They
- Learn critical thinking skills through text and character analysis and the problem-solving associated with theatrical production
- Develop public speaking, communication, and personal presentation skills
- Become more media savvy in an increasingly media-driven world
- Build your self-confidence
- Enhance your imagination, creativity and personal expression
The Theater Department at NSCC believes that by making theater we come to understand the world and ourselves in a deeper and more empathetic way. Join us.
