Heading the Theater Department is Dawson Nichols, an internationally-renowned performer and playwright whose work has won awards at more than a dozen international theater festivals and has been seen on four continents. He has also taught at the University of Washington, the University of South Carolina, and Cornish College of the Arts. Dawson continues to write, direct, and perform professionally.
Jane Harradine has been teaching at NSCC for 13 years and she has been working in Seattle theater even longer. An accomplished director, Jane has worked on new plays, classical texts, and everything in between. This week her favorite playwrights are Brecht, Genet, and Caryl Churchill.
Diane Hostetler founded the Theater Department at North Seattle Community College over thirty years ago. She headed the program and directed productions on campus until 2005 and is now teaching part time and acting locally in theatre and film.
Dan Schuy heads up all technical aspects of the Theater Department and serves as the Producing Director for Stage One. A Pacific Northwest native, Dan has more than 20 years experience working in theatres around the region, designing dozens of productions and building even more. Dan has been at North for 16 years.
Cynthia Thompson Cynthia Thompson is the Theater Department Program Assistant and factotum. Cynthia has been involved in theater, film, television, and radio for more than 30 years. Cynthia studied with Viola Spolin and has performed at numerous theaters in the Seattle area. She has also been in seven shows here at North.
The Theater Department also utilizes Visiting Artists through the sponsorship of the student government-supported Stage One Theater. Professional artists are invited to North each quarter to participate in Stage One productions and to give workshops for students and the community at large.
