“Free Throws for Relief” for hurricane victims

Monday, September 12th, 2005

North’s men’s basketball team is now collecting pledges for their September 29 “Free Throws for Relief” fundraiser, to benefit those affected by Hurricane Katrina.  All 15 players and three coaches will be attempting 100 free throws each.  Donors can give a flat donation or pledge a dollar amount per free throw made.  The successful shots made will be tallied and pledges will be collected by October 6 and sent to the American Red Cross.  The team will attempt the shots in the Wellness Center at 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, and students, staff, and faculty are welcome to attend.

Kyle Gray, team coach and North graduate, explained that, “Like all of you, we have been devastated by the recent events along the Gulf Coast.   This is a way for us to show that we are more than just a basketball team, we are a group of guys who really care about what is going on in the world.”  The team has set a goal to raise $3300.  Those interested in donating money can contact Coach Gray by email, kgray@sccd.ctc.edu, or phone, 206.817.1039.
