5 New Programs Lead to Many New Careers

Several new certificates are now available at North Seattle Community College that can provide skills and knowledge needed for a good job or a new career. By studying International Business, Broadband Cable Technician,  Commercial Real Estate and Investment,  Legal Administrative Assistant, Project Management, or Entrepreneurship you can start on the road to a new job or career.  

Broadband Cable Certificate -- North's new Broadband Cable certificate is designed to provide entry-level training for people who want to work as technicians in the broadband cable industry.  This field is expected to grow as new services are continuing to be introduced over cable to include video on demand, high speed Internet and digital voice (telephony services). While other programs may address network administration, North’s new certificate is the only program in this region that specifically addresses cable TV and high speed Internet over cable.  Courses will include Introduction to Broadband, IT Essentials, Principles of Electronics and Customer Relations. Commercial Real Estate --Courses that provide the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a commercial real estate career or as an investment avenue are included in the new Commercial Real Estate and Investment certificate. The 25-credit program will cover such topics as commercial real estate finance, sales, leasing and investment analysis; land use principles and practices; and real estate law and economics.  For more information, email Nancy Adelson at nancyadelson@comcast.net.

Legal Administrative Assistant -- The first of its kind to be offered in Seattle, the Legal Administrative Assistant certificate is designed to prepare employees for positions in a law office, for-profit business, government agency, and public service organization.  The courses will cover such areas as communication, civil procedures, business math, and fundamentals of law, business ethics, legal office procedures, and legal research. International Business - We live in an era of globalization, and that means opportunity, if you know how to access it. The trend toward greater economic, cultural, political, and technological interdependence among national institutions and national economies has brought with it an increased demand for knowledgeable professionals who can talk the language of globalization and bridge the gap that separates nations and neighborhoods. You can gain those skills at North Seattle Community College. North’s International Business certificate is designed for people who are interested in a career in international business and trade, a growing focus in the Northwest.

Entrepreneur -  Do you dream of owning your own business – of reaping the financial rewards, of strolling in at 10 a.m. and ducking out for appointments without having to explain? Do you long to feel a sense of excitement and pride at running your own show?

If so, North’s new Entrepreneurial Certificate can give you many of the tools you’ll need to become a successful entrepreneur.  As you pursue this program, you will learn about product selection, channels of distribution, pricing, marketing and selling strategies, creating a business plan, financial planning, financing, operations processes, project management, and communication. 

Project Management - You can develop a career as a project manager wherever you work or want to work -- construction, telecommunications, engineering, or health care. Our new Project Manager certificate can get you started. In our program you will learn about leadership in the project process, planning and control, risk management, and utilization of MS Project Management software to develop a project plan, schedule, budget, and produce deliverables for management reporting.
