State Academic Team Honors Two NSCC Students
Tuesday, March 7th, 2006
The annual All-Washington Academic ceremony, held March 2, honored the state’s top community and technical college students and North’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) president, Beth Scholler, and PTK officer, Erin Wilson, were among those told to “shoot for the moon” by Governor Chris Gregoire. Scholler and Wilson, chosen for their academic achievements as well as their community service, attended the ceremony at South Puget Sound Community College, where they met the Governor and had their photo taken with her.
Wilson, who has a 3.9 GPA, is a governess and helps raise funds for the college through the NSCC Education Fund, said of the event “I feel like I sacrifice a lot during the year and it was nice to be celebrated by educators and leaders who understand the sacrifices I make to maintain my grades and give back to the community.” Scholler, who returned to college after a 20-year hiatus, has a 3.9 GPA while working full-time and maintaining her duties as the president of PTK.
Each student will receive a $750 scholarship provided by the Northwest Education Loan Association and Key Bank and are competing for a spot on the All-USA Team which honors 60 two-year college students from across the country and provides additional scholarships. The All-USA Team members will be announced in the April, 24 edition of USA Today.
