New program: IT for Healthcare
Starting spring quarter, North is presenting a new program, IT for Healthcare. This program is intended to train those interested in the nursing field on health related technologies, as well as those who are currently in IT who are interested in getting into healthcare.- 15 Credit Certificate -- Courses will include IT 100 - Introduction to Computer Systems and Networks, IT 101 Software Applications or BUS169 Using Computers in Business, and AHE 155 HIPAA and Network Security.
- One Year Achievement Certificate (36- 41 Credits) -- The One Year Certificate builds on the IT curriculum by adding medical fundamentals and project management as well as informatics. This One Year Certificate of Achievement targets the displaced worker looking for a new skill, and it targets new students who are looking to work in the healthcare field using IT skills. These jobs may include positions such as Surgery Scheduler, Unit Coordinator, Medical Record Technician, and Patient Coordinator.
- Associate Degree -- AS Degree in IT for Healthcare. This degree consists of a well rounded curriculum that will enable graduates to work in the medical field in hospitals, home health, and ambulatory care facilities. Students will be employed in entry level positions such as Help/Service Desk Analyst, Clinical Support Staff, Technical Support, and Data Center Analyst. This degree works with the current enrolled LPN, Pharmacy Tech or Medical Assistant student who may emphasize their Allied Health Associate of Applied Science with IT for Healthcare curriculum to obtain this Degree. This combination will enable the student to demonstrate to their potential employer that not only are they trained in Healthcare, but are ready and able to work in today’s digital healthcare arena.
