Get involved! Apply now for Student Leadership
Thursday, July 26th, 2007
Today’s community college student body is more diverse than ever before. And, students increasingly must balance academic demands with work, family and other personal obligations. As technology has seeped into every corner of our lives and we have become a more global society, students’ needs and expectations about how they participate in student life and leadership opportunities have also changed.
As a result, during the 2007-2008 school year, the Student Leadership and Multicultural Programs department will lead an effort to create a new model of student governance. Students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to offer their suggestions through focus groups, surveys and research teams. During this process, a transitional student government (Student Leadership Council) will be selected to carry out the necessary business and legal obligations of student government such as approving bills and developing the Service and Activity Fee budget recommendations for the Board of Trustees.
We are now accepting applications for the 2007-2008 Student Leadership Council. Council members will represent and advocate for the interests and concerns of the student body by serving on committees, boards and implementing special projects (including helping to create the new governance model). They will also conduct weekly business meetings to pass bills and to provide status reports to their constituency and participate in ongoing training to broaden their skills and abilities. To ensure that more students can participate on the Council, members are compensated through hourly wages.
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
• Has completed 12 or more credits at North Seattle Community College
