A few words from Jeffrey Vasquez, Director of Student Leadership & Multicultural Programs at NSCC:

Do you have what it takes to lead? No?

Think again.

In the nine years that I've been working with students I have observed that often the most capable leaders are those who think... that's not me! Perhaps it's because in our media rich society we tend to focus on and see only the celebrated leaders who are spotlighted for their honorable and heroic acts and achievements. While these people are certainly worthy of recognition and praise I think this narrowed focus may cause us to believe that some people are born leaders and others are not. For more than a decade now the ideas of today's most important thought leaders - people like Peter Senge, Jim Collins and Margaret Wheatley - tell us that leaders are made through ones' deliberate efforts to learn, grow and improve. Good managers nurture and support their staff in becoming leaders and in serving in leadership roles. To create the solutions required to address the complex challenges of modern society and to seize the opportunities that technological advances provide, I believe it is time that we recognize that there is a leader within each of us. And that each of us must take responsibility for making our communities better for everyone; especially given today's evolved consciousness that we are truly one interconnected global community.

Step forward and say yes to being a student leader. The responsibilities of the Student Administrative Council members are to advocate for and represent the interests of the student body. Foremost this requires a personal passion and commitment to learn, serve and to grow both as an individual and as a member of a team. If you are energized by the challenge of building sustainable, healthy and vibrant communities and find yourself frequently thinking about ways to make North Seattle Community College even better than it already is then act now and apply for a position as a Student Administrative Council member. You will find the work to be rigorous, challenging and at times frustrating but in the end you will find it to be a highly rewarding and enriching experience. You will discover levels of competence and excellence you didn't recognize you had before and you will gain confidence in your own abilities and the power of team work. Your efforts to grow will be supported but you will be expected to reach deep within yourself to provide nothing less than your very best. As a result you will forever expect yourself to give your best effort in everything you do.

Opportunity awaits you! Advance your future - apply for a position with the Student Administrative Council and discover the leader you are!
