NSCC Grad Wins UW Medal

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

For the second time in three years, a transfer student from North Seattle Community College has been awarded the President's Medal at the University of Washington.  Laura Hinton, who received a bachelor's degree in anthropology, was recognized for her grades and overall scholarship.  The university awards the medal annually to a student who entered the UW with at least 60 transfer credits from a Washington community college.  NSCC's President, Ron LaFayette, was on hand at the UW commencement ceremony to join UW President, Mark Emmert, in presenting the award.  (Both LaFayette and Emmert are themselves former Washington state community college students.)  Hinton plans to work towards a Master of Science in nursing and hopes to promote access to healthcare for the disadvantaged.  Read more about her at http://uwnews.org/uweek/Awards2009/profile.asp?id=50113
