The Mathematics program prepares students in three areas: developmental (preparation for college-level courses), transfer and vocational. All students who plan to obtain an Associate's degree or transfer to a 4-year institution must demonstrate proficiency in Intermediate Algebra (MATH098). In addition, all college-level (transfer) classes have Intermediate Algebra as the prerequisite. Students without prior college math courses must take a math placement assessment before pursuing any college level math courses.
College level (transfer) math classes prepare the student for transfer to a 4-year math program. They also act as support classes for science, business, engineering, and computer science in addition to satisfying a general quantitative reasoning requirement for the Associate of Arts degree.
A few math classes are also offered for certain vocational programs. See the respective vocational program to learn more about specific math requirements.
