Purpose: The AA
Degree is intended for students planning to transfer to receive a baccalaureate degree from a four-year college or university with a major in the areas such as Humanities, English, Literature, Psychology or Sociology. The AA Degree provides a broad education
in liberal arts.
Outcomes: Upon completion of your
AA Degree program, you should:
- Have college-level knowledge and skills in critical thinking, quantitative
analysis, and written composition.
- Have college-level mastery of information literacy and technology literacy.
- Have effective skills for in-person and media-based interactions with individuals
and within groups.
- Understand methods and modes of inquiry specific to traditional and contemporary
areas of knowledge in the humanities and arts, natural and physical sciences,
mathematics, and the social sciences.
- Understand the interdisciplinary nature of knowledge.
- Understand the United States as a multicultural society.
- Understand the global society and processes of globalization from mostly, but
not exclusively, non-Western and indigenous perspectives.
The AA Advantage:
Your AA degree will enable you to
transfer to a public four-year college or university in Washington, including the
UW at Tacoma and Bothell, as
well as a number of private colleges and universities, such as Seattle University
and City University. Despite what you may have heard about the University of
Washington (Seattle) restricting transfer enrollments, at least 30% of new
undergraduates enrolled at the UW
(Seattle) in a given year will still come from Washington community colleges.
Be sure to work with an advisor to help you prepare for transfer.
Advising: Completion of degree requirements and scheduling is
your responsibility. Advisors are available to assist you in developing an
education plan. Transferability of courses must be coordinated between you and
the institution to which you plan to transfer. If you have questions, contact
the Advising Center.
