Quote About CLA:
The Associate of Arts (AA) degree requires that students have an Integrated Studies experience in order to:
  • Discover the interdisciplinary nature of knowledge
  • Integrate sources from multiple fields and viewpoints
  • Work in a collaborative teaching and learning environment
  • Synthesize and evaluate new understandings and knowledge

This requirement can be fulfilled by completing a minimum of 8 credits of Linked Courses or Coordinated Studies Courses.

What is an integrated studies course?
Integrated Studies combines or links two or more individual courses into one integrated learning experience.

What is the difference between a coordinated studies course and a linked course?
  • With linked courses, students take separate courses and draw comparisons between the subjects.
  • In coordinated studies, students participate in seminars and learn together in one combined course with two or more faculty.
What is the difference between integrated studies courses and regular courses?
  • They offer an opportunity to earn credits from two or three different disciplines in one coordinated 8 to 15-credit package.
  • They are organized around a central theme or question rather than a particular academic discipline like history or biology.
  • They have faculty teams of two or three instructors providing students with perspectives from different academic disciplines.
