- The Associate of Arts (AA) degree requires that students have an Integrated
Studies experience in order to:
-
- Discover the interdisciplinary nature of knowledge
- Integrate sources from multiple fields and viewpoints
- Work in a collaborative teaching and learning environment
- Synthesize and evaluate new understandings and knowledge
This requirement can be fulfilled by completing a minimum of 8 credits of Linked Courses or Coordinated Studies Courses.
What is an integrated studies course?
Integrated Studies combines or links two or more individual courses into one integrated learning experience.
- What is the difference between a coordinated studies course and a linked course?
-
- With linked courses, students take separate courses and draw comparisons between the subjects.
- In coordinated studies, students participate in seminars and learn together in one combined course with two or more faculty.
- What is the difference between integrated studies courses and regular courses?
-
- They offer an opportunity to earn credits from two or three different disciplines in one coordinated 8 to 15-credit package.
- They are organized around a central theme or question rather than a particular academic discipline like history or biology.
- They have faculty teams of two or three instructors providing students with perspectives from different academic disciplines.
