U.S. Cultures is one of the required areas of study for an Associate of Arts degree at North Seattle Community College and the Seattle Community College district. Degree requirements exist at the community college because of a long standing belief in higher education that liberal education - education in breadth - is as important for informed and effective participation in contemporary life as specialized education. The college adopted the American Cultures requirement to prepare students for an increasingly diverse society. Western Washington University, the University of Washington, Washington State University and Central Washington University all have general education requirements similar in intent and nature to North's US cultures requirement.

Courses that count toward the U.S. Cultures requirement are listed in the degree requirements for the AA degree. You can download the AA Degree Requirements in the Associate of Arts degree and the Associate of Science degree.
