Common Course Numbering

Starting in Summer Quarter 2008, NSCC will begin using a new Common Course Numbering (CCN) system. It is designed to identify courses that are equivalent at community colleges and to make it easier for students who may transfer between two-year colleges. As a result, some of our course numbers and titles have been changed to comply with the new standard being used by Washington State's community colleges.

What's up with the &

Courses with an ampersand (&) after the prefix are part of the Common Course Numbering system. There are currently about 150 common courses. You will find these used by all 2-year colleges across the state and the course content is equivalent from campus to campus.

Many courses did not change prefixes, numbers or titles and will continue to transfer under previous agreements between two-year and four-year colleges.

The Seattle Community Colleges District website has a list of the courses that have changed that includes both old numbers, new numbers, and titles.

Printed lists of these courses will be available for reference in the Admissions/Registration area on campus.

For example, you'll notice some minor differences in the following course prefixes:
