Internships

For Students

Why intern?

Internships can:

This internship was a good opportunity for me to grow and develop my accounting career because I gained additional skills, knowledge and experience in the non-profit accounting field. It provided the information I needed to choose between profit and non-profit accounting for my career path. It also provided an opportunity to learn and experience the real accounting environment, which I will have to face when I actually go to work as an accountant. I feel that if I had not had the opportunity to intern at the YMCA, I would never have known how much I really want to be an accountant or my ability to do accounting work.

I'd like to say that this internship experience has taught me that I need "more than the minimum amount of flair" to excel and advance. My productivity and my confidence are up, and the people that I was hoping would notice have. I feel I'm ready for more responsibility, and hopefully this internship has shown that I can, and am willing, to handle it.

Getting Started

The Internship program at NSCC pairs classroom training with real world experience to get you prepared for your future. Most students begin by taking CWE 101 which helps them to develop and/or obtain an internship. Once the student has the internship, they register for CWE 110 to earn credit. Both CWE 101 and CWE 110 can transfer as general elective credit.

While school is a comfortable secure place to learn, real life is a speeding train that is not slowing down, I need to grab on. Doing an internship while in school opened my eyes and expanded my thinking. Now, in the classroom, I know what questions to ask, what materials to study and what will be expected of me in the field. The reasoning behind the work, the tests, the projects and the sleepless nights finally make sense now that I am interning in the field. I feel more interactive in the classroom, like I am a step ahead of the student sitting next to me.
