Tutoring — or mentoring, as I like to describe this process — is an opportunity to share and expand one's knowledge of writing techniques with another student striving for similar ends. This usually entails the complete understanding of a student's desire to successfully interpret ideas into the written and subsequently readable text. For me, the moment of epiphany is reached when something, even a tiny detail, is understood through careful explanation, along with some humor, and (hopefully, patiently) absorbed into the learning process by the student. I always believe that students and teachers are one and the same. We learn from one another.

I like the opportunity to meet and work with bright, interesting, hard-working people (both students and tutors) of diverse backgrounds. Tutoring is an ongoing learning experience. Students bring so much about their studies, their background, their experiences, as well as their questions, that tutors can learn as much as the students.

I like my job as a tutor because I enjoy helping people. The students I meet here are from many different places and have much different experiences than any others I know. What other way could I meet such interesting people and help them?

I really enjoy being a tutor because I get a chance to help students understand better what they didn't get in class. It is very rewarding to know I can make a difference.

I like tutoring here at The Loft because so many of the students I see are sincerely interested in learning something new. This makes the tutoring sessions lively and interesting, and I almost always learn something as well.
