Teachers
These workshops, conducted by Loft staff in The Loft Writing Center (Library, Top Floor), are free to all currently enrolled North Seattle Community College students. All workshops are arranged on an appointment basis, for groups of 2 to 7 students. Just assemble your study group, visit or contact the Loft director (see contact info below), and show up at the appointed time.
Personal Statements
  • For students preparing applications that require essay-style personal statements.
  • Learn how to interpret application requirements for any personal statement, and how to write statements that express your strengths to their fullest. Bring your statement in progress if you have one.

Prose Style
  • For students with intermediate English writing skills.
  • Learn how to add variety, detail, and music to your sentences, using simple modifying phrases.

Resumés
  • For any student creating a resume, for practice or for a real job application.
  • Learn how to assemble the details and find the words to make a strong, effective resumé. Bring your work experience information with you to the workshop.

Revision
  • For all students with classes that involve writing projects.
  • Learn about what revision is, why it's important, and how to do it efficiently and effectively. Bring an assignment in progress if you have one.

Self-Study Computers: Basic English Vocabulary
  • For students of English as a Second Language (ESL).
  • See how The Loft's computer programs can help you master the basics of everyday English vocabulary.

Self-Study Computers: English Grammar
  • For students at all levels of English language study.
  • See how The Loft's computer programs can help you explore the subtleties of standard English grammar.

Taming the Wild Word Processor
  • For all students with classes that involve writing projects.
  • Learn all the steps of creating a paper in academic format, including centering, double-spacing, and indenting first lines and quotations. Basic skill with mouse/keyboard required. Bring a 3.5" IBM formatted floppy disk.

Writing Process
  • For students in ENGL097/98 to ENGL&102.
  • Using common brainstorming techniques compose a finished collaborative essay in just over an hour. Also become acquainted with The Loft's essay-planning/composing software.
