Buying Your Textbooks
- Books can be expensive (average cost is $50 - $100 per class).
- Shop early for used books.
- Students who participate in their high school reduced lunch program may borrow books from the Running Start Book Fund Program. For more information, see a Running Start advisor.
How do I know what books to buy?
Books are available at the NSCC Bookstore. The Bookstore is located on the first floor in the Instructional Building.
-
Go to the Bookstore and take your schedule with you.
-
Textbooks are located in the back area of the Bookstore on shelves.
-
Textbooks are arranged alphabetically by subject, abbreviated to the first three letters. For example: English = ENGL History = HIST Spanish = SPAN
-
-
Determine the books you will need to purchase by the course item number as listed in your course schedule.
Shelves are labeled with information similar to the example below:
1263 ENGL&101 01 5cr TB 1550 Daily 8:00AM-8:50AM MA

If the top of the tag says "required," you must have this book for the class.
If the top of the tag says "recommended," then the instructor feels it is a good book to assist with the class but you are not required to have it.
TIP: It is a good idea to purchase textbooks before the quarter begins.
