Determine your eligibility
Take the placement test. The fee is waived (one time only) for Running Start applicants who present a valid high school photo ID when taking the placement test. Testing schedules and additional information is available from the Testing Center's Placement Tests page.
To qualify for Running Start, you must place at the English and/or math level required for your program of study, usually ENGL& 101 / MATH 102. If you do not place at the required level, you may re-test. Re-testing information is also available from the Testing Center's Placement Tests page.
If you require disability accommodations for testing, contact the Disability Services office before scheduling your placement test.

Meet with your high school counselor
Once you are eligible, meet with your high school counselor to discuss:
- Your interest in the program
- The type of classes you need to fulfill your high school's graduation requirements
- The type and number of courses you would like to take at NSCC
- Complete the pre-enrollment form. Be sure to obtain the signatures of your high school counselor and a parent or guardian.

Obtain, complete, and turn in your application packet
You can get an application packet by:
- Picking one up on campus from either the Testing Center office, or Advising Center office
- Downloading the PDF version (104 KB)
Mail or deliver your completed application packet to the Running Start office at:

- Completed NSCC admissions application
- Placement test results
- Completed pre-enrollment form
- Signed Running Start contract
Priority registration will be given to students who meet the following quarterly deadlines:
- May 1 — Fall Quarter
- November 1 — Winter Quarter
- February 1 — Spring Quarter

Schedule and attend an advising appointment
Once your application packet has been processed, you will receive detailed registration information. This information will include instructions on how to schedule an advising appointment. You will register for your classes during this appointment.

Attend a Running Start orientation
Attending the Running Start orientation is mandatory. The orientation is held about 2-weeks before the start of each quarter. During your advising appointment, you will receive the orientation date, location, and other details.
