Sociology is a discipline that performs research on a wide variety of topics which influence one's personal life. These include culture, child rearing, deviance and crime, social class, race and ethnicity, sex and gender, family, education, health, population and many more that can affect your daily living.

This research can be useful in decision making for business, legislation or counseling, and to help you personally become a more informed and critical thinker. Sociology can help you view the world from not just your individual perspective, but from a broader cultural perspective. It helps you to understand how what happens to you personally is related to larger social trends.
